Frequently Asked Questions

Problem: Why can't I set my alarm after a recent false alarm?

Solution: Hit * on the Key Pad to see what zone is faulted or open. If it says alarm with a number next to it, write down the number. Next, push your four digit code +1 (Off) to clear the alarm. You will then need to press your 4 digit code +1 again to reset the system to normal. If you still don't have a green light, reference the number you wrote down, and make sure that zone is not still faulted. Then repeat the above steps. If this still doesn't work, you will need to give us a call @ 815-485-4700.

Problem: I can't set my alarm and the green light does not come on.

Solution: Hit the * key to see what zone is faulted. Next, reference your Zone list to find out what that zone is. If the zone is a door or window, make sure that it is completely closed. If it is a motion or infrared detector, make sure that no one is in the room with the detector. If, after you have checked, the green light does not come on, your equipment may be broken or worn out. You can bypass the zone by hitting your four digit code, then the number 6 (bypass), and then the zone number you are having issues with. EXAMPLE: If the keypad shows zone 08 is open press the following, Your 4 digit code +6 + 08 If the keypad shows zone 008, then you would have to enter the following. Your 4 digit code + 6 + 008. This will remove the device from the system, but will allow the rest of your system to work properly. However, every time you turn off your system, it will remove the bypass and you will have to repeat the above procedure before you can set your alarm again.

If Batt shows up on the keypad, what does this mean?

This typically means that the battery used to back up the alarm system has gone bad. If you give us a call we can have one of our experienced service technicians come out to replace it. Or, if you feel comfortable doing it yourself, we can tell you what kind you need and how to change it. Q: Batt or low battery with a number next to it shows up on my keypad. What does this mean? A: This means that a battery in one of your wireless devices is going bad and needs to be replaced. If you give us a call we can have one of our experienced service technicians come out to replace it, or tell you what kind you need and how to change it.

If my alarm goes off will it keep going off?

No, we set our panels to sound the alarm for 16 min each time a zone is tripped. However, if the sirens time out and then someone goes through another area of the house or opens another door, the sirens will go off for another 16 minutes.

How do I add, remove, or make changes to my call list?

This has to be done in writing. It can be mailed or Faxed to Knight Security with your account number, and it must be signed by an individual authorized to make changes to the account.
